Tool Kit

You will need a few basic tools and supplies for everyday use in keeping your home in tip-top shape. A suggested list follows:

  • Medium-sized adjustable crescent wrench
  • Standard hand pliers
  • Screwdrivers: small, medium, large and Phillip's head
  • Claw hammer
  • Hand saw
  • Assorted nails, brads and screws
  • Sturdy pen knife
  • Plane
     
    Other tools can be rented or purchased as you
    have need for them.

Fire Extinguishers

Every homeowner should have at least one. Each member of the family should be familiar with its location and operation. Have it checked annually to be sure it functions properly and is fully charged. Be sure you and your family know how to turn off electricity, gas and water, in the event of an emergency of any sort.

First Aid Kit

Keep a home first aid kit in a convenient location. Buy and keep with it a booklet on first aid and home safety.

Annual Check List

  • Check condition of putty, caulking and exterior paint. Replace or paint as needed. (Spring)
  • Inspect roof, repair if necessary. (Spring)
  • Check for evidence of termites. (Spring)
  • Check interior paint; repaint when needed.
  • Have heating or cooling system cleaned, serviced and repaired, if necessary. (during off season)
  • Oil motors of appliances as directed in instruction manuals. (Periodically)
  • Check cords and plugs of all electrical appliances for wear. If necessary, have them repaired or replaced. (Periodically)
  • Keep trash, boxes, or other flammable materials away from water heaters and furnaces.
